Naval Oceanography Operations Command Conducts Ceremony for New Leadership

Recently, Captain J. P. Garstka was relieved by Captain Heather Quilenderino as Commanding Officer, Naval Oceanography Operations Command (NOOC) at Stennis Space Center on the 27th of April.
During ceremony, NOOC’s Sailors, civilians and other guests bided farewell to Garstka while offering a warm welcome to the incoming Quilenderino.

Change of Command for Strike Group Oceanography San Diego

SAN DIEGO --  Cmdr. Kimberly Freitas was relieved by Cmdr. James Scianna as Commander, Strike Group Oceanography Team San Diego (SGOT-SD), in a ceremony at Naval Air Station North Island (NASNI), Apr. 22.

The Change of Command ceremony is not prescribed specifically by U.S. Navy Regulations, but rather is a time-honored naval tradition.

Family and friends, both civilian and military, came together to bid fair winds and following seas to Cmdr. Freitas, the very first Commanding Officer at SGOT-SD with two years in command, and to welcome Cmdr. Scianna as the new Commander.

Stennis Space Center, MS --  Commander Stephen McIntyre was relieved by Commander Matthew Watts as Commanding Officer, Naval Oceanography Mine Warfare Center (NOMWC) at Stennis Space Center on the 8th of October.

In a ceremony at the NASA facility in southern Mississippi, the command’s Sailors and dozens of military and civilian guests bid farewell to CDR McIntyre while offering a warm welcome to the incoming CDR Watts.

SUITLAND, MD — The U.S. National Ice Center (USNIC) comprises elements of the
U.S. Navy, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the United States Coast
Guard (USCG). The Naval Ice Center (NAVICECEN), a military unit under Commander, Navy Meteorology and Oceanography Command, is the largest component of the U.S. National Ice Center and the Center’s only independent command. The Commanding Officer of NAVICECEN also serves simultaneously as the Director of USNIC,  Jul. 12, 2021.

CDR Casey J. Gon relieved CDR Heather H. Quilenderino as Commanding Officer of NAVICEN during a change of command ceremony held at the NOAA Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF) in Suitland, MD on 08 July 2021 at 1000.

U.S. Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Changes Command

Stennis Space Center, Miss. (June 25, 2021)  Rear Adm. Ron Piret commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command (CNMOC) offers remarks during the change of command ceremony, Friday June 25. Piret emphasized the importance of the people who comprise all of naval oceanography and their execution of the overall mission.  “Not only are we ensuring safe operations, but we are maximizing the fleet’s ability to operate where and when it chooses,” said Piret. “Rightfully, we pursue innovation and technology that advances those efforts, but make no mistake, it is the expertise and dedication of Sailors and civilians, the human element, which has remained the cornerstone of naval oceanography’s success and sustained our relevance in maintaining maritime superiority.” (U.S. Navy Photo)
