Master Chief Gene Douglas enlisted in the U.S. Navy in Minneapolis on July 19, 1998, and completed his recruit training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Ill. After completion of Aerographer’s Mate (AG) “A” School, he reported to Naval Meteorology and Ocenaography Detachment Roosevelt “Roosey” Roads, Puerto Rico. Following his shore tour, he transferred to Mobile Environmental Team Norfok, Va., where he deployed onboard the USS Anzio and the USS Winston S. Churchill, and supported numerous cruisers and destroyers for shorter missions.
Following his sea tour, he attended AG “C” school in Biloxi, Ms. After graduation, he was assigned to Commander Second Fleet in Norfolk, Va., as a forecast duty officer. After a short time on shore duty, he was selected for orders to the Naval Special Warfare Development Group at Dam Neck, Va. While there, he served on two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and two deployments to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
He was selected to the rank of Chief Petty Officer in September 2010, while assigned to Riverine Group One in Virginia Beach, Va. He served initially as the Operations Leading Petty Officer, then took over as the Operations Department’s Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO). From August 2012 to September 2015, Douglas served as a detachment LCPO detailed to Special Boat Team TWELVE and then Naval Oceanography Special Warfare Center Department LCPO at Special Recconnaissance Team ONE in Coronado, Calif. In September 2015, he reported to Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, Stennis Space Center, Miss. There, he served as Battle Watch Captain for Commander Task Group 80.7, assistant future operations officer and Maritime Operations Center LCPO, and later served as the Career Counselor and Senior Enlisted Leader for the CNMOC Staff. From February 2019 until April 2020, he served as the Command Senior Chief at Naval Oceanography Anti-Submarine Warfare Center, then finishing his SEL tour at Fleet Survey Team, Stennis Space Center, Ms where he was selected for promotion to Master Chief.
Douglas currently serves as the Command Master Chief at Fleet Weather Center San Diego, Ca. He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy and Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat School, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership from the University of Charelston, West Virginia.
His personal awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and numerous campaign ribbons and unit awards.
