Commander Dominic DiMaggio

CDR Dom DiMaggio was born in New Jersey, but calls Arkansas home. He holds a Bachelor of Science in physics from the University of Arkansas, a Master of Science in meteorology and oceanography and a Doctor of Philosophy in physical oceanography from the Naval Postgraduate School.

Commissioned in 2004, he initially served as an instructor at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command (NNPTC) in Charleston, South Carolina. In 2008, DiMaggio laterally transferred into the Naval Oceanography community and qualified Information Warfare Officer shortly thereafter.

At sea, he served as Fleet Operations Officer at the Naval Oceanography Anti-Submarine Warfare Center (NOAC) in Stennis Space Center, Mississippi; and Staff Oceanographer to CARRIER STRIKE GROUP NINE aboard the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-71) for their 2017-2018 deployment to the 5th and 7th Fleets in support of OPERATIONS INHERENT RESOLVE and ENDURING FREEDOM. 

Ashore, he served as Officer In Charge at Fleet Weather Center Strike Detachment (FWCSTKDET), Fallon, Nevada; and Senior Meteorology and Oceanography Officer at U.S. INDO-PACIFIC COMMAND (USINDOPACOM).

While at the Naval Postgraduate School, he conducted multiple field studies and numerical simulations of the Arctic Ocean to investigate the implications of the changing ocean-acoustic conditions on naval operations and undersea warfare. He was recognized for graduating With Distinction from the Naval War College’s Joint Professional Military Education Phase I program, and his research has been published in Elementa: Science of the Anthropocene, April 2018 edition.

CDR DiMaggio currently serves as the Commanding Officer of the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, as well as various service and campaign awards.

Dom is married to Ms. Kelly Baker of Franklin, Tennessee, and is the proud father of Michael, Ivy, and Willow DiMaggio, and is the proud step-father of C Baker-Hefley.
