AGCS(EXW/IW) MICHAEL G. CONKLIN Senior Enlisted Leader, Joint Typhoon Warning Center

Senior Chief Aerographer’s Mate Michael G. Conklin, a native of Connecticut, enlisted in the Navy in June of 2000.  Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Great Lakes, IL, he reported to AG “A” School at Keesler Air Force Base, MS where he was an honor graduate and earned accelerated advancement to Petty Officer Third Class.  His first duty station was Naval Air Facility El Centro, CA followed by an overseas tour in Bahrain, where he provided environmental support for OEF/OIF.  After completion of his overseas tour, he went on to AG “C” School and earned his J00A Forecaster NEC.

     As a weather forecaster, his first tour was at the Naval Central Meteorology and Oceanography Detachment Diego Garcia, where he provided mission support to Air Force bombing campaigns in support of OEF. Subsequent forecaster tours included Mobile Environmental Team Yokosuka, where he provided afloat environmental support to multiple  DESRON 15 ships and earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist qualification aboard the USS JOHN S MCCAIN (DDG-56), Fleet Weather Center Norfolk and Strike Group Oceanography Team (SGOT) Norfolk, where he was selected for advancement to Chief Petty Officer in 2013.
 
      Following his advancement, he served as OA Division Leading Chief Petty Officer onboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-71) followed by Operations Leading Chief Petty Officer at SGOT.  In 2015, he transferred to Naval Information Forces where he served as the Aerographers Mate rate manning and training subject matter expert.  This tour was followed by his second tour in Bahrain, where he served as Chief Petty Officer in Charge of the Fleet Weather Center M aritime Component.  He was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2019 and transferred to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center Pearl Harbor, HI in 2020 where he currently serves as the Senior Enlisted Leader.
 
      Senior Chief Aerographers Mate Michael G. Conklin’s personal awards include three Navy Commendation Medals and four Navy Achievement Medals.  He is qualified as an Enlisted Information Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist.  Additionally, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Southern New Hampshire University, graduating with summa cum laude honors.
