Lieutenant Commander Sondra Longworth
Executive Officer, U.S. National Ice Center
LCDR Longworth is a native of Loganville, Georgia. She holds two Bachelor’s Degrees and one Master’s Degree from the University of Georgia and commissioned in 2008 via Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island as a Cryptologic Warfare Officer.
In March 2009, she attended Information Warfare Basic Course in Pensacola, Florida and reported to Navy Information Operations Command Maryland in May 2009. She served as a Division Officer and earned her Information Warfare Officer Qualification. Upon completion, she reported to USS HIGGINS (DDG 76) in February 2012 where she was the Tactical Information Warfare Officer and was able to earn her Surface Warfare Officer Qualification.
In February 2014, she transferred to the Center for Information Warfare Training Corry Station in Pensacola Florida where served as the Department Head for the Information Technology Schools and an instructor for multiple officer courses. During her time, she completed her Master Training Specialist Qualification. Following her tour in Pensacola, she served as Flag Aide for U.S. Fleet Cyber Command / U.S. TENTH Fleet at Fort Meade, Maryland from May 2016 through May 2017. Following this tour, LCDR Longworth reported for her O4 milestone tour at United States Africa Command, Stuttgart Germany in September 2017 where she was the Maritime Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance planner. She was USAFRICOM’s 2018 Field Grade Officer of the year. After her O4 milestone tour, she served as the Cryptologic Warfare and Cyber Warfare Engineer Junior Officer Detailer until May 2022. She is currently the Executive Officer of the National Ice Center in Suitland Maryland.
LCDR Longworth is married to Joey Longworth and they have two children: Dylan, 15 years old and Madyson, 7 years old. Her personal awards include: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medal (3) and Joint Service Achievement Medal (2).
