Lieutenant Commander Sabrina L. Cummings Executive Officer, Strike Group Oceanography Team San Diego

Lieutenant Commander Cummings is a native of Asheville, North Carolina and enlisted as an Aerographer’s Mate in the United States Navy in 1998. She completed her Recruit Training at RTC Great Lakes and reported to “AG-A1” school in Biloxi, MS. After graduating, she reported to Naval Atlantic Meteorology and Oceanography Detachment (NLMOD) New Orleans where she qualified as a surface weather observer, completed all AG-C1 school requirements and was promoted to Petty Officer Second Class.
 
In 2001, she reported to “AG-C1” school at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS. Upon graduation she was assigned to Mobile Environmental Team (MET) Norfolk where she qualified as Forecast Duty Officer (FDO) and completed deployments onboard USS THOMAS S. GATES (CG-51), USS COLE (DDG-67), USS MONTEREY (CG-61), USS MAHAN (DDG-72), and USS VELLA GULF (CG-72) and was selected for First Class Petty Officer. In 2003 she deployed to Guantanamo Bay Cuba in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
 
In 2004 LCDR Cummings was selected for participation in the Seaman To Admiral -21 (STA-21) program and reported to Officer Training Command in Newport Rhode Island. In 2008 she graduated from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science in Physics and was commissioned as an Ensign. She reported to Pensacola Florida for initial flight training, eventually earning her wings as an E-2C Hawkeye Naval Flight Officer. LCDR Cummings returned to the Naval Oceanography community in 2012 and served as a Command Duty Officer at Fleet Weather Center (FWC) Norfolk. She served as the Officer-in-Charge of the Naval Oceanography ASW Detachment (NOAD) Jacksonville from 2013 to 2015. In 2018 she earned her Master of Science in Meteorology and Physical Oceanography from the Naval Postgraduate School and reported onboard USS BOXER (LHD-4) as the METOC officer, where she completed their 2019 WESTPAC deployment. In 2020 she reported to Strike Group Oceanography Team San Diego (SGOT-SD) as the Executive Officer.
 
LCDR Cummings has been awarded the Navy Commendation medal, Navy Achievement Medal (four awards), and various campaign and unit decorations.
 
LCDR Cummings is married to Chief Aviation Machinist Mate Gerard Cummings and they have two daughters, Taylor (20) and Jordan (6).
