The James M. Gilliss Building, USNO
The James M. Gilliss Building is the headquarters of the U.S. Naval Observatory (USNO) in Washington, DC. Named in honor of LT James M. Gilliss, USN, who initiated action that led to the creation of USNO in 1842, the building was designed by the renowned American architect Richard Morris Hunt and was completed in 1893.
